Much speculation has taken place in the past five years around the impact of Brexit on the EU and UK economies, societies, and politics. The politically heated and acrimonious process was not conducive to a level-headed analysis of what the impact of Brexit might be. With the end of the transition period in January 2021, stories have started emerging about the actual impact of Brexit on the UK and the EU. Little by little these stories will form a picture that will allow us to assess the accuracy of the promises made and fears expressed since the referendum campaign. The Brexit Impact Tracker seeks to contribute to this important task.

In lieu of the usual Brexit-related news roundup, this week’s Brexit Impact Tracker takes the form of an article I wrote together with my colleague Chiara Benassi from King’s College London for the Encompass Europe Ezine.

We discuss the government rhetoric about a post-Brexit high wage, high skills, high productivity economic model and what it would take to achieve this if the next government were serious about it. Read the article here.
